* CMFiler -- Version 6.04 *

*******************************
The printed user's manual being sent to registered users as of the date
of this file is current to Version 6.00. Any registered users who wish
to receive a copy of this latest printed manual may order by sending $5
to NoVaSoft. This essentially covers our printing and mailing costs.
The following features have been added or improved since the printing of
the CMFiler Version 6.00 user's manual:
"QUICK-STARTING" AN ASSOCIATED FILE in Windows 95: For PCs running under
Windows 95, if an association exists between a file extension and an
application, you can start the application and operate on that file just
by putting the cursor on the filename and pressing Q. For example,
Windows 95 associates .WAV files with its audio WAV file player. To
start the WAV file player, and have it load a particular .WAV file, say
TADA.WAV, just put the cursor on the filename TADA.WAV and press Q.
FILE COMPARE: Version 6.04 has a new file compare facility in the main
services module similar to the old DOS program COMP.EXE. Put the cursor
on one file to be compared and press Ctrl-R (for compaRe). Navigate to
the second file, put the cursor on it and press Ctrl-R again. The bottom
of the screen will show the results of the file comparison.
ENHANCEMENTS TO FILE VIEWER: The file viewer has been made more seamless
when viewing files which are too long to fit into the available
conventional memory. When searching for a string, viewer will load and
search the next and each subsequent section of the file until the string
is found. The file beginning/file end commands (Alt-B/Alt-E) reload the
first section, or sequentially load and index each section to the end,
instead of only moving to the beginning or end of the currently loaded
section.
A switch (Ctrl-M) has been added to the file viewer to allow masking non-
ASCII characters. This helps in viewing word processing files, such as
WordPerfect files, which have non-ASCII characters distributed
throughout.
SPLITTING FILES IN THE FILE VIEWER: The file viewer can now be used to
split a file into up to 20 smaller files, at dividers inserted by the
user. Alt-I inserts a divider at the location of the cursor, and Alt-S
splits the file at the dividers. The beginning and end of the file have
pre-placed, implicit dividers.
In order to make the command Alt-S available for "Split file," the
command for switching from view to edit mode has been changed from Alt-S
to Alt-D (for eDit mode).
IMPORTING A FILE IN THE EDITOR: The user may now import another file
into the file being edited by placing the cursor on the line just below
the desired insertion point, and pressing Alt-T (for imporT).
FLOPPY FORMATTING: The user may now specify a volume label to be applied
to floppies during a formatting session.
PRINTER LINE FEED: A printer line-feed command, Ctrl-i, issues a line-
feed carriage return to LPT1 only.
LONG FILENAMES FOR COPY-WITH-RENAME: Long filename support is now
available to the Alt-R "copy file with Rename" function.
